volunteer > volunteer policies
On average 25 volunteers work at AHC each month. Volunteers come from many countries ranging from America, England, Australia, and Canada to Germany, Singapore, and Japan. Some work at AHC for a few days, while others stay a few weeks or months. Most volunteers have medical training and/or professional skills that can be used in AHC's clinical settings. Non-medical volunteers assist with administrative undertakings, English teaching, and/or the play specialists.

In the past, most volunteers were directed to AHC through Friends Without A Border, but increasingly volunteers approach the hospital through other professional networks (HVO and NVO). Tourists visiting Siem Reap often become short-term volunteers wanting to contribute a little to improve the circumstances in Cambodia.

The following guidelines apply for all volunteers:
  • Volunteers must send a CV and details of professional or personal requirements that may have bearing on their time in Siem Reap.
  • AHC will arrange transport for the volunteer to and from the airport or other points of arrival and departure. Volunteers should inform the hospital of arrival details at least one month in advance.
  • There is a wide range of accommodation in Siem Reap. Please visit the housing link.
  • Volunteers must sign the Volunteer agreement form.
  • Volunteers will have a photograph displayed on the staff bulletin board for identification purposes.
  • Volunteers will be provided bicycle on request.
Tourists wanting to volunteer at AHC:
  • Must complete the volunteer application form with CV.
  • Wait 24 to 48 hours to have the volunteer application form processed and approved.
  • Return to AHC to meet with the department head willing to supervise volunteer activities relevant to the applicant.
