AHC is a non-profit paediatric healthcare organization with a goal of improving healthcare for Cambodia’s children. Since our inception in 1999, AHC has grown from a hospital to a well-established and credible healthcare organization providing not only quality equitable healthcare for hundreds of thousands of children annually but also extending our influence to make a greater impact on child health nationally and internationally.

AHC’s experience places the organization in a strong position to tackle a number of large global child health concerns including reduction of neonatal and child mortality and morbidity and antibiotic resistance and stewardship. AHC’s Global Child Health agenda is focused on developing innovative, impactful and sustainable solutions to major global child health issues that combine existing scientific evidence and analytical thinking with creativity and contextual understanding.

In the six years since AHC started its neonatal programme the number of babies dying in hospital has reduced by 80%. AHC has examined the implementation steps of its own neonatal programme and identified interventions that had the most impact on in-hospital new-born mortality. These include having a dedicated area for neonatal care, good infection control practice, essential equipment and teaching. Based on these data AHC has designed a step wedge cluster randomised trial entitled: Design, implementation and assessment of a comprehensive community neonatal heath package utilising medical and social interventions (short title: Saving Babies Lives)
