Celebrating International Women’s Day 2018: Sin Reaksmey, Laboratory Team Leader

To celebrate International Women’s Day, we’re profiling a few of the wonderful women who work at AHC as doctors, nurses, laboratory specialists, and more.

Sin Reaksmey is a Laboratory Team Leader who has worked at AHC for 16 years. Originally from Siem Reap, she studied at the Technical School for Medical Care at the University of Health Sciences in Phnom Penh before returning home to work at AHC. In her day-to-day work, she performs lab tests and prepares educational material for other lab staff. She says she loves her job, especially sharing her knowledge with her co-workers and constantly improving her own knowledge.

She originally wanted to work in a lab because she was fascinated with the morphology of blood and bacteria. She says there are many other women who work alongside her in the lab doing similar work and she encourages others to study science if they like research. Her message to girls and women who want to study science in Cambodia: “ Studying science is good and Cambodia benefits from more women in science. If you enjoy science, you can learn it just as easily as men.”
