Saving children’s lives by providing compassionate and quality medical care has been the core aim of Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC) for more than 20 years. As the Covid-19 pandemic continues, AHC is suffering increasing financial challenges as many fundraising activities have not been able to take place, and funding from donors has also dropped significantly.
AHC is adapting to the new normal by organizing its Annual “Bon Phka Prak Mohasamky Year 8” fundraising event online for the first time to raise funds during this difficult time. The event will take place in two parts. The first is an online dharma advice series broadcast daily by domestically and internationally well-known and venerated monks on AHC Facebook page, from 9 am to 10 am from August 13th – 28th, 2021. The culmination of the event on August 29th, 2021, will be a blessing ceremony on Seven Noble Truths by seven of the venerable monks at Angkor Hospital for Children, Siem Reap Province. Due to COVID-19, only a limited number of participants will attend but it will also be shared online.
Seeing the hardships that Angkor Hospital for Children is facing, Venerable Pin Sem, Supreme Councilor, Member of the National Assembly of Buddhism in the Kingdom of Cambodia and Chief Monk of Wat Reachbo, Siem Reap, many monks, lay people and businesses have been tireless supporters, helping to organize and promote the event and raising funds and awareness through their networks. AHC is extremely grateful for their ongoing commitment and dedication.
Neak Oknha Kith Meng, Chairman and CEO of Royal Group of Companies (RGC), as well as RGC’s operating companies Wing Bank (Cambodia) Plc and Cellcard are promoting the event and raising funds to support the hospital. Lok Chumteav Mao Chamnan, Chief Operating Officer of RGC and Wing Bank, which is participating for the second time this year, said “As a mother, when your children have health problems, you are always worried.” This is especially true when your child is sick and it is difficult to find reliable treatment.” In addition, the continuous support of such esteemed patrons is invaluable to AHC.
Dr. Ngoun Chanpheaktra, Hospital Director is also calling on local and international supporters to participate in any way they can, such as donating directly to AHC, donating via to the event via WING (wing code) , and helping to spread the word on social media. He added “the funds raised from Bon Phka Prak Event are an essential part of keeping our operations running with quality and compassion.” In 2020, AHC treated 97,069 children, trained 73,908 medical staff, nursing and medical students, parents who come to AHC and educated 56,747 participants in villages, schools and hospital centers.
