General description:
The School Nurse Officer works closely with the principal, teachers, health center staff and other relevant government and NGOs to improve and promote health care and clinical decision-making based on outcomes, process performance and evidence-based guidelines.
AHC has a zero-tolerance policy towards child abuse, sexual exploitation and abuse and sexual harassment.
Main responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with policies and procedures of the hospital (AHC) and schools
- Teaching, coaching and training in the following topics: first aid (provider and instructor course), basic health care, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), basic eye education to primary school students, basic dental education to teachers and students
- Facilitating/coordinating activities and trainings, such as: dental treatment/education and basic eye care to primary school teachers
- Work closely with teachers to identify student’s health problems such as dental, eye, nutrition conditions and general health
- Liaise with local health government staff
- Assist in the design of health education materials for schools such as posters, flipcharts, etc.
- Work closely with schoolteachers to make sure soap is always available for hand washing
- Assist in regular monitoring of students’ behavior regarding hand hygiene and tooth brushing and weekly fluoride mouth rinse
- Perform other administrative functions, such as reporting
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in nursing is essential
- The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Ministry of Health (MoH), Kingdom of Cambodia
- Three years’ work experience in nursing within AHC or a clinical setting outside of AHC
- Experience in teaching is preferable
- Nursing License registered with Nursing Council
- Seminars, workshops and training related to policies and guidelines for school health
- Basic computer skills (Words, Excel, Outlook, and Unicode)
- Strong communication, listening, presentation and interpersonal skills
- English would be an advantage
- Ability to learn and adopt new technical skills
- Ability to effectively facilitate meetings and discussions
- Ability to work independently, be self-directed and self-motivated
- Ability to write summary reports for the project’s responsibilities
- Ability to work as part of a multicultural team
- Understand the vision/mission/slogan of Angkor Hospital for Children
- Confident speaking in large groups and participating in discussions
- Strong understanding of national school healthcare structure and policy
- Comfortable in a rural environment and working in villages.
