Youk Touch, 70, commutes through her village with a purpose: to make sure no one is left behind when it comes to health.
For nearly 20 years as a Village Health Support Group (VHSG) volunteer, she has gone door to door, reminding neighbours about upcoming health sessions by Angkor Hospital for Children’s community team. More than just disseminating information, she encourages parents to vaccinate their children and follows up with families who are unable to attend.
When she identifies vulnerable families, she reports them for support and often shares her own rice or money. Equipped with training and handbooks, she patiently repeats health messages until they are understood because of one simple reason.
“I’m still here because I value children’s health. I want to make sure they are growing to become good citizens and human resources for the country, Touch said.

That belief reaches Ngek Sreylene, 25, a mother of two who recently attended her first nutrition and cooking demonstration.
Pregnant with her second child, she wanted to make sure every ingredient she prepares is healthy for her son and her future daughter. While she once relied on social media for advice, learning in person helped the knowledge truly sink in.
In her village, many children fall sick due to busy parents, processed foods and limited nutrition awareness. Through these sessions, Sreylene gained confidence and practical skills she can use every day and plans to attend again.

“I have a small two-year-old son, so I want to make sure every ingredient is correct and healthy for my son and my future daughter,” Sreylene said.
With the support of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), AHC is implementing a community-based project to strengthen Village Health Support Groups (VHSGs) and improve child nutrition in rural communities of Siem Reap Province. By building local capacity, the initiative helps ensure families receive timely, trusted and practical health support.
Thank you for investing in people, partnerships and the shared belief that better health begins at the community level.
