The International Communications & Engagement Manager leads a small team with one International Communications & Engagement Officer, and is responsible for leading on high quality, strategic and on-brand communications outputs to support AHC’s fundraising activities.

Key responsibilities

Strategic planning and quality management (30%)

  • Develop and deliver communications and engagement strategy, annual operational plans and execute activities to fulfil performance targets
  • Develop, deliver, monitor and review policies and procedures set to benefit the unit, the rest of the department and the organisation as a whole (e.g. copy and visual branding guidelines, press and media policy, video production request form, etc.)
  • Provide strategic direction to the success of our international audience-focused communications channels (LinkedIn, e-mail and website)

Project management (30%)

  • Appeals:
    • Project manage our bi-annual appeals from planning to execution (research, ideation, production, execution) to delight current and attract new donors
    • Lead on strategic planning and asset production such as key messages, case for support, appeal packs, landing pages and ensure successful dissemination of appeal mass communications
    • Support fundraising colleagues with customising mass communication for high-value, mid-value, regular giving, corporate and grants segments as required
    • Monitor, report and analyse appeal results to reflect and plan future appeals
  • Website:
    • Review and refresh the current website as required by the Executive Committee
    • Monitor the overall look, feel and contents of the website
    • Support with creation and troubleshooting of campaigns, donation and peer-to-peer landing pages as required
    • Support department members with any back-end support in relation to donations, donor requests and support as required
    • Review and implement miscellaneous requests from other units and departments as required
    • Work with IT and external website consultants as required
  • Reporting:
    • Lead on planning for strategic storylines and approaches for our annual report and bi-annual impact reports
    • Ensure the International Communications & Engagement Officer successfully leads managing reporting projects with relevant teams to ensure successful production
    • Fact check data and quality control all reports regarding copy, design, use of imagery and ensure reports are disseminated on-time-on-brand and are of high quality
  • Legacy giving:
    • Work closely with the Partnerships & Philanthropy Unit to research, create and iterate communications assets for legacy giving
  • Monthly giving:
    • Work with the fundraising units to develop and lead on a refreshed monthly giving programme for our international supporters

Brand management (25%)

  • Fact check data and quality control all reports regarding copy, design, use of imagery and ensure all communications assets are disseminated on-time-on-brand and are of high quality
  • Guard the AHC brand and lead on the design of all international communications outputs
  • Distil complex information into clear coherent key messages and focus across all channels and assets
  • Work with the Cambodia Fundraising Department to ensure the English communications in the VC is correct and in line with international communications needs
  • Lead on photography and videography as required for international communications, working with the Cambodia Communications & Engagement Unit if needed
  • Work closely with department members to develop communications collateral in support of fundraising activities as required

Line management (10%)

  • Lead a high-performing unit, ensuring the team remains highly motivated to achieve their deliverables on-brand, on-time to fulfil the unit’s targets through regular 121s, quarterly reviews and annual appraisals
  • Lead the unit to research and plan creatively and strategically for the most influential communications outputs and assets
  • Ensure the unit works seamlessly with other units in the department and wider organisation
  • Ensure the unit is utilising project and work-planning tools effectively, have clear goals and can deliver work on-time, on-brand of high quality
  • Manage the unit’s expenditure budget alongside annual budget setting and operational planning
  • Be an integral member of the Unit Management team, fostering a positive team culture that celebrates individual and team achievements and strives for continuous learning and improvement

Public relations, press and media (5%)

  • Process and ensure smooth execution of international media requests and visits
  • Research opportunities for international coverage in field of child health, global health and tropical medicine

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Communications, Business Administration, International Development, or any related fields
  • At least six years of work experience in a related field, preferably in a non-profit organisation
    • With a minimum of five years of demonstrable leadership and/or management experience

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong copywriting and copyediting skills; able to create compelling and inspiring copy and propositions to various audiences
  • Excellent understanding of the power and importance of visual branding, design principles and branding strategies
  • Fluency in social media and email marketing platforms and their analytics and management tools
  • Fluency in design programmes such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Fluency in WordPress and plugins Elementor and GiveWP
  • Knowledge and of working with databases and contact relationship management systems like Salesforce
  • Excellent IT skills including experience with Outlook, Excel, Word and Powerpoint
  • Comfortable with DSLR cameras and accompanying media equipment
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Able to successfully manage multi-dimensional projects from planning to execution
  • Empathetic; able to connect with the hearts and minds of our donors, supporters and patient families 
  • Quick learner, able to absorb and conceptualise child health projects in a low resource setting and translate that to donor interests
  • Able to work independently, as a team player and as a leader in a diverse working environment
  • Calm under pressure and dynamic, flexible, organised and detail oriented with the ability to multi-task, hit deadlines and work on many projects simultaneously
  • Creative, analytical and strategic; able to undertake a data-based approach to enhancing the performance of our communications & engagement efforts 
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to collect and assess information rapidly, identifying key points and summarise as appropriate
  • Motivated, target-driven and self-starter showing tenacity to get results
  • Genuinely curious and motivated to improve healthcare for every child in Cambodia with AHC’s International Fundraising Department
