Our people

Working alongside our Board of Directors, AHC consists of 99% Cambodian staff. Meet some of our team:

Claudia Turner (Executive Committee) – Managing director

Claudia became the managing director of AHC in April 2015, she has responsibility for overseeing all aspects of the running of the AHC Organization. Claudia first joined AHC in 2012 in a research collaboration with the University of Oxford forming the Cambodia Oxford Medical Research Unit (COMRU). Claudia is a UK trained paediatrician, with wide tropical paediatric experience.

Chanpheaktra Ngoun (Executive Committee) – Hospital Director

Dr. Pheaktra has been with AHC since the very beginning: he trained as a doctor at AHC in 1999, and has been with us ever since. In 2002, Dr. Pheaktra was named Director of Emergency and Intensive Care Unit before being promoted to Chief of Medicine just two years later. In 2011 he was named Deputy Director from which he was promoted to Acting Medical Executive Director in early 2015.

Navy Tep, RN, MBA (Executive Committee) – Chief Operating Officer

Navy worked at a government health center before joining AHC as a nurse. He is an integral part of the management team, having risen from Team Leader to Vice-Director of Nursing. Promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2012, Navy is responsible for making sure the hospital runs efficiently and effectively.

Arjen Laan (Executive Committee) – Chief Business Officer

Arjen graduated as a nurse and worked for 10 years in an Amsterdam Hospital in the Netherlands in several management and nursing positions. In 1990 he joined Medecins sans Frontieres where he worked for 10 years undertaking medical and non-medial (management) positions and eventually as a Board member. In 2000 he made the move to the profit sector and was appointed as the Director of Human Recourses for a private Real Estate Investment Company with assets in 21 countries. Arjen has worked in Cambodia since 2013 and joined AHC in August 2015 as the Chief Business Officer, providing oversight for all financial and organisational issues.

Pises Ngeth – Medical Director

Dr. Pises joined AHC in 1999 and was promoted to Medical Director in 2012. He has been teaching at AHC since 2003 and is a trained Cardiologist. His role is to oversee all medical departments. Dr. Ngeth is a member and instructor of Advance Pediatric Life Support (APLS) Australia.

Vuthy Sar – Surgical Director

After graduating as doctor, Dr. Vuthy worked in the Siem Reap Provincial Hospital as trainee surgeon. In 1998 he joined AHC as a Pediatric physician and in 2012 was promoted to Surgical Director. His range of skills cover various areas of pediatric health care including cardiac surgery, plastic surgery and orthopedics.

Sophal Som – Director of Nursing

After attending Regional Nursing School in Battambang, Sophal started his career at Sot Nikum Referral Hospital, before moving to work for the Provincial Health Department in Siem Reap. Sophal was recruited by AHC in 1998 as a nurse, before becoming Nursing Manager. In 2004 he was promoted to Director of Nursing.

Development Director
Nicky Jurgens – Development Director

Nicky first came to Cambodia in 1996; the country and its people immediately captured her heart. Nicky graduated from Portsmouth University with a Masters Development Studies and in her thirteen years of professional public health experience, nearly half of that time has been spent working for non-profits in Cambodia. As the Development Director, Nicky and the development team work to support the hospital by diversifying its donor base and secure long-term funding, in line with the hospital’s strategic plan.

Gregor McKellar – Chief Financial Officer

Gregor McKellar graduated from Strathclyde University with a 1st class honors degree in Accounting and Finance in 2009. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the Institute for Chartered Accountants in Scotland in 2012 with Deloitte in Glasgow. He has worked in an advisory capacity with non-profit organizations in both the UK and Cambodia. He began working with AHC in March 2015.

Helen Catton – Satellite Clinic Coordinator

With a degree in Psychology, a Masters in Nursing and certificates from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Helen previously worked on an Infection Control & Immunology ward, and with a public health team on the Thai/Burmese border. She supports staff to provide care and integrate with the government hospital.

Visal Maray – Director of Administration Department

Visal came to AHC as a volunteer in 2002, and was employed as a Unit Clerk in the In-patient ward in the same year. She was promoted to be an Admin assistant a year later and after five years was appointed Admin Office Manager, responsible for daily admin office operation and coordination of volunteer travel and visas. She has a Masters of Business Administration in General Management. In 2013 she became the Director of Administration department responsible for leading and managing the daily operation activities of the entire hospital.
