AHC accepts qualified medical volunteers from a range of medical and nursing specialties.
Please note that, as Angkor Hospital for Children is a high quality provider of medical treatment and education and is a nationally recognised paediatric teaching hospital, we only accept volunteers who are specifically trained in paediatric medicine or paediatric sub-specialties.
Angkor Hospital for Children also offers an international clinical elective for paediatric residents who have had at least two years of paediatrics-specific training, and an international elective for international medical students in their final year. We accept a maximum of one resident and one medical student at any given time. We prioritise applicants from institutions with whom we have a reciprocal arrangement, but carefully look at all qualified applicants.
The main purpose is for foreign trainees to get exposure to international health, tropical medicine, and how paediatrics is practiced in a resource-limited setting. These electives are not designed to help fill any particular needs of Angkor Hospital for Children. We review applications and make a decision approximately nine months in advance.
Note that for dental volunteers, at least five years of post-graduate professional experience is required.
Angkor Hospital for Children also accepts volunteers for non-medical positions including information technology, development, communications, human resources, biomedical engineering and all other support services.
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that we will always be able to find a placement for volunteers’ spouses, partners, children, relatives or friends. They are very welcome to apply in the usual way and if their skills and expertise do not fit the hospital’s needs, we may be able to suggest alternative organizations that they could try.
We cannot accept volunteer requests from children under 16 years of age.
