General Description

The Social Worker will join a small, supportive team that forms an integral part of Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC). The Social Worker will be responsible for supporting individual patients and their families or caregivers in overcoming psychosocial challenges while they are receiving care at AHC, either as inpatients or outpatients, and will work closely with the Social Work Team Leader.

The Social Worker will respond to the psychosocial needs of patients and their families or caregivers and provide quality case management, including emotional and counselling support, financial assistance, and social service interventions related to child protection issues. The role will also involve providing appropriate referrals and advocacy when required. The Social Worker will collaborate with AHC staff as well as local authorities and partner NGOs to ensure comprehensive support for patients and their families.

AHC has zero tolerance for Child Abuse, Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA), and Sexual Harassment (SH).

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follow AHC social work procedures and guidelines.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments.
  • Conduct financial assessments of patients and their families.
  • Provide emotional and counselling support, as well as social service consultations.
  • Organise and coordinate support from the hospital as needed.
  • Collaborate with local authorities, social service agencies, and NGOs to provide holistic social support to patients and their families.
  • Work closely with medical staff to provide quality care for patients and their families.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams and meetings regarding child protection and patient support.
  • Facilitate medical examinations and assist with the documentation and processing of evidence when required.
  • Conduct follow-up visits with patients and their families at home when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
  • Participate in training sessions and team meetings.
  • Provide supervision to other staff members and assist with the management of complex cases when required.

Qualifications and Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (preferred), Social Work, or a related field.
  2. Experience working with vulnerable children, particularly those who have experienced abuse (including physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, or other forms of child abuse).
  3. Experience providing emotional support and counselling.
  4. Experience conducting financial or socio-economic assessments.
  5. Experience working in the social work field is an advantage.
  6. Previous experience working in a medical setting is an advantage but not required.
  7. Willingness to travel to communities to assess patients’ situations when required.
  8. Willingness to work with communities, local authorities, and NGOs as needed.
  9. Enthusiastic and hardworking.
  10. Honest and trustworthy.
  11. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  12. Good communication skills with communities and local authorities.
  13. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  14. Good written and spoken English and Khmer.
  15. Willingness and ability to learn and adopt new skills.
