Established in 2023, AHC’s Trauma and Critical Care Centre (TCCC) has quickly become a vital part of our hospital, delivering life-saving treatment for children across Cambodia.
This programme plays a critical role in ensuring children have access to high-quality surgical and trauma care services when they need them most.

In less than three years, demand for these services has continued to grow as more families seek specialised paediatric trauma care. Consultations have increased by 14%, admissions by 31%, and major surgeries by 72.5%, reflecting the growing need for trauma and critical care services.
This steady rise highlights how TCCC is helping to bridge the gap in access to specialised care for some of Cambodia’s most vulnerable children.

Today, TCCC is extending its impact beyond the walls of AHC by sharing this knowledge with healthcare professionals from across the country.
Yesterday, 21 participants joined TCCC’s fourth Basic Suture and Orthopaedic Casting Workshop, a hands-on training programme designed to strengthen essential clinical skills in injury management and fracture care. They are from diverse backgrounds including 12 nurses, physicians and healthcare professionals from other organisations, alongside 8 nurses, doctors and trainees from AHC.

The workshop combined interactive lectures, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and real-time feedback. After the session, participants gained practical experience and confidence needed to perform basic suturing and orthopaedic casting in primary and emergency care settings.
What does it mean for us and Cambodia?
By investing in training and professional development, TCCC is helping to strengthen Cambodia’s healthcare workforce and ensure that more children can access timely, high-quality care, wherever they live.

“The workshop was a wonderful learning experience. The trainers were patient, supportive, and explained each step clearly, which made it easy to follow and practise. The basic suturing session was especially helpful for me because it directly relates to my daily work. I now feel more confident and better equipped to apply these skills in my practice.”

“I am very happy to have joined this workshop. Having the opportunity to observe demonstrations and take part in hands-on practice really helped me improve my skills. This is my second time attending a TCCC workshop, and once again it has been a valuable learning experience. I hope there will be more training opportunities in the future, including workshops focused on other areas of clinical practice.”
