AHC’s community department strategic plan 2027–2031 development workshop
Since 1999, AHC has provided treatment to nearly three million patients across Cambodia. But while providing quality medical care is vital, we believe the best way to care for children is to stop them from getting sick in the first place.
This is why part of our mission is focused on education in Strategic Goal 2: Improve healthcare for children across Cambodia through education for health workers, community members and caregivers. By strengthening knowledge at every level, from parents to frontline health workers, we help prevent illness, promote healthy practices, and ensure children receive timely, appropriate care.

Since 2001, the community department has been central to this mission. Guided by the belief that prevention is more effective than treatment, it has led AHC’s Community Health Action and Engagement unit (CHAE) for more than two decades. The team works with communities, schools, and local NGOs and authorities to improve health literacy and strengthen frontline capacity.

To shape its next five-year strategy, the department recently convened a Strategic Plan Development Workshop, bringing together teams from the community department’s Saving Babies’ Lives (SBL) unit and CHAE unit, along with the social work unit, education department, nursing department, and international fundraising department.
The workshop provided space to reflect on achievements, identify gaps, and explore opportunities to strengthen and expand community health work. Through open discussion and collaboration, teams aligned on shared priorities and a clearer direction for the years ahead.

The result is a stronger, more unified vision for community outreach programmes, building on more than 20 years of experience while responding to the evolving needs of Cambodian families.
With AHC also in the process of developing our new Organisational Strategic Goals 2027–2031, this new community department strategic plan is designed to ensure alignment and long-term sustainability across programmes. Looking towards 2031, the plan reinforces AHC’s long-standing commitment to prevention, education, and empowerment. It ensures that more families have the knowledge and support they need to keep their children healthy.
